About the Owner/President
Gary Smith
Born in Columbus, Georgia, Gary Smith served in the United States Army’s elite United Nation Command, Joint Security Force while in South Korea. In this capacity, he conducted numerous combat patrols on the DMZ in addition to being tasked with providing dignitary protection for many foreign and U.S. leaders including former President Gerald Ford.
Smith was later transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia for Airborne School and assigned to the 101 st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell. There, he excelled as a soldier and received Air Assault Training and attended pre-Ranger School. Smith quickly rose through the ranks from Corporal of a five-man team to Sergeant. In 1989, Smith’s unit was deployed to the Gulf to support Operation Desert Shield and later Desert Storm where he received a Combat Infantry Badge for providing rapid response to Iraqi insurgents.
Smith ended his six-year military career in 1993 and began service with the Atlanta Police Department (APD), first as a patrolman and later as a special operations officer for the elite Red Dog tactical narcotics squad.
As an award-winning member of the Red Dog unit, Smith received extensive tactical operations and dignitary protection training. He then graduated from Basic SWAT School and conducted dignitary protection alongside Secret Service and FBI agents during the terms of President Clinton and President Bush. He is currently employed as a Detective in the Special Operations Section of the APD.
Smith founded Royal Security & Executive Protection Group, Inc. (RSEPG) in 2001.
